Friends of the Library

Friends of the Mid-Columbia Library sponsored Annual "Giant" Book Sale.

This very popular book sale is held in the Kennewick Branch, Keewaydin Park Branch, and Pasco Branch in January. Check back for the exact dates for 2008.

Money generated from these sales help fund programs, events, staff support and materials not covered in the tax based budget. In the past years Friends have helped fund the very popular Summer Reading Program throughout the library system. They also fund monthly children's craft programs, the bright blue book bags for patrons to carry checked out books in, Book Pages, a monthly book review, holiday decorations for the libraries, movie night refreshments and recently Friends purchased a fully automatic optical disc repair system enabling DVDs and CDs to be kept in scratch free condition for patron check-out.

For questions about the sale or more information about the organization visit Friends@mcl-lib.org or call (509) 586-5609.

We have Friends groups in most of our branch libraries. They provide support to the library by assisting with library programs and projects, by sponsoring programs for the public, holding books sales to raise funds to purchase items that library budgets cannot provide and fostering support for the library in the communities.

Currently, there are active Friends groups in Basin City, Benton City, Connell, Kennewick/Pasco, Othello, West Richland.

For more information about the Friends of the Library or how to join your local branch Friends group, contact Nancy Russell, President of the Mid-Columbia FOL, by phone (586-5609),  E-mail, or call your local branch library.

Book Sales.

Used books for sale by the Friends of the Library are also being offered over the Internet by Gail's Books, a local on-line bookseller. You can find the Friend's books either by searching in the subject catalogs, or in the separate Friends of the MCL catalog.

Our Purpose and Activities:

The purpose of Friends of the Mid-Columbia Library organization is to maintain association of persons interested in providing aid and assistance to the library community. Friends of the Library have a common concern for the library's active expansion and participation in community life. They have a conviction that good library service is important to everyone.

Activities may include: the raising of funds for equipment, materials, and other needs of the library which are beyond the means of the Board of Trustees; sponsoring of culturally enriching community programs such as talks, exhibits, films, and story hours; and stimulating gifts of books and desirable collections, etc. All activities are free and open to the public.

MEETINGS

Meetings of the Kennewick/Pasco Friends are held the first Monday of each month. Call your local branch for meeting times of other branch Friends groups.
